Moving into Day 3 of the White Marlin Open & currently this is the fish to beat. Reel Tight still sits in 1st place at 1.3 million dollars after an uneventful day two at the scales. Only 15 boats fished Tuesday due to the forecasted 4-7 foot seas. And 0 of the 15 boats came to the scales.
Marlin fishing has been tough so far this year. But it only takes one! WMO sets their minimum size for qualifying white marlin to 70 inches which they will measure in the boat before putting it up on the scale. Qualifying weight for this tournament is a minimum of 70 lbs.
About 10 days ago, our charter partner Boss Hogg caught the only qualifying white marlin to place in the Big Fish Classic at a solid 76 lbs. Also, to note the Big Fish Classic saw some really nice big eye tunas with weights of 258.5, 258 & 225 all on their leaderboard.
Something to keep in mind tonight and possibly over the next two days is if no qualifying white or blue marlin are caught then most of that prize money will move to the heaviest tuna. That scenario could be a hefty payday for a tuna!
